Lighting Damage & Protection
Lightning damage is probably the most catastrophic thing that could happen to a tree. Since water is a conductor of electricity and it’s spread out throughout the entire tree; when a lightning bolt hits the tree dead on, it typically vaporizes everything instantaneously.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other cases where the damage is minimized and we can help the tree heal or save it. Scarred trees are the most typical result of lightning strikes. The area underneath the bark contains moisture in the form of sap and water. Lightning will strike blasting off the bark but leaving the rest of the tree intact. Bark can’t be grafted back onto a tree, so there are only so many options we have toward protecting it in the future, especially during the winter. Call us today to find out your options.
