Reasons Why Trees Die Part II
Try as we might, sometimes our trees don’t outlive us. Much like humans, trees are vulnerable to the silent killers of the world. However, pinpointing potential harms can reduce the risk of trees falling susceptible to harsh conditions. In order to avoid tree decay, the following situations should be monitored:
Improper planting
Ensuring the tree is adequately planted will boost the longevity of its life. Poor planting can lead to wonky growth, harming the tree’s health in the process. A good rule of thumb is to make the planting hole two to three times wider than the base of the tree.
Abandoning proper tree care
While this may seem obvious, unfortunately inadequate upkeep is common among tree deaths. Substantial pruning and trimming is of the utmost importance if you want a tree to prosper. Neglecting these standard grooming techniques can prove detrimental to your tree’s well-being.
Unfavorable location
It’s imperative that a tree’s environment complement its genetics. For instance, planting a tree under insufficient sunlight will inevitably lead to its decline. Moreover, if a specific tree requires more water than others to flourish, it should not be placed on dry soils.
Armillaria root disease
Caused by the intrusion of unwanted parasites, fungi invades the tree and is ultimately responsible for its demise. Unfortunately, the only way to prevent this disease is to actively fight to prevent it. Through no fault of the owner do pathogens take hold of their trees.
